of Alice In Ireland

Judy Sheehan's charming and comical Alice in Ireland will be the first play of 2003 at Centenary Stage Company. Alice in Ireland by Judy Sheehan and directed by Barbara Bosch, will be the next production at the professional Centenary Stage Company in Hackettstown. Alice in Ireland runs February 28th to March 15th at the Centenary Theatre, on the campus of Centenary College.

Alice in Ireland is the comic misadventures of a modern day "Alice" who decides to make a pilgrimage to Ireland to get in touch with her "roots". Following the guidelines of the Big Book of Irish Weddings, Alice must travel through Ireland on her way to wed her fiance in her famous mother's castle. Along the way she revels with lively soccer fans in an Irish pub, she's charmed by a handsome Irish lad, she tours the Ring of Kerry, where Irish fairies captivate her. On a journey of discovery Alice is transformed by the land of enchantment.

The play Alice in Ireland has won the Reva Shiner Full-Length Play Contest and the Siena College International Playwrights' Competition. It was the 1999 critics' pick of the Kalamazoo Gazette.

Developed in Centenary Stage Company's own Women Playwrights Series (WPS), Alice in Ireland is the comic misadventures of a modern day "Alice" who decides to make a pilgrimage to Ireland to get in touch with her "roots". Following the guidelines of the Big Book of Irish Weddings, Alice must travel through Ireland on her way to wed her fiance in her famous mother's castle. Currently, Judy is the playwright-in-residence at New York's prestigious Looking Glass Theatre, which produces her work every season. Past productions include Women In Hats, Aphrodite's Dungeon, and A Carole Christmas, an hilarious and satirical play about the Martha Stewart phenomena.

At the Looking Glass Theatre Judy has collaborated on a trilogy of children's musicals, I Was A 9-Year Old Blues Diva, I Hate Spinach, and I'm So Incredibly Bored. Her play, Bright Girls, Stupid Lives, was a critical and popular success in Portland, OR where it was nominated for a prestigious Drammy Award. Judy was commissioned by Centenary Stage Company to write the popular Murder At Waterloo for the historic Waterloo Village Dinner Theater, which ran for three seasons. Excerpts of Judy's plays have been included in the popular anthology, Monologues For Women By Women, and in its sequel, Still More Monologues For Women By Women (Heinemann).
