"A memorable feast for the ears!" hailed the Toronto critics at the debut concert of Ebony and Ivory, the dynamic musical group that will perform at the Centenary Performing Arts Guild on Saturday, February 16 at 8 pm. With a variety of music, including Jazz, ragtime, Benny Goodman and light classical, Ebony and Ivory perform on a wide array of instruments, including saxophone, multiple clarinets, and keyboards. Ebony and Ivory's performance of the Celtic-inspired "Feast" is reported to "transport" the audience [Toronto News].The evening's lineup of music ranges from a jazzy New Orleans style to the "barn-burning" "Hoe-down," as well as such memorable classical numbers as Bach's "Courante," which holds audiences "enthralled." Ebony and Ivory founder and leader, Andrew Gilpin, began his performing career at age 15 in Edmonton Alberta, Canada. He has performed at venues across North America and on television and radio. His most recent recording, Multiplicity, includes jazz and classical works, vocals and instrumentals, and features his major work for soprano soloist, "Gloria." Consummate musician and clarinetist David Veilleux, a native of Montreal, provides the woodwind elements of the Ebony and Ivory concert evening. Veilleux has performed at the Montreal Chamber Music Festival, Petite Maison des Arts and Lachine Summer Festival, and is founder of LeTrio Contrastes, which produced an award-winning CD in 1998.
