Broadway
veteran Dodie Pettit brings her special talents to the Centenary
stage on Saturday, October 7 at 8 PM, when she performs "A
Country Evening with Broadway Flair," in concert with her four-piece
band and "friends". Actress, singer, dancer and songwriter,
Ms. Pettit was an original Broadway cast member of Andrew Lloyd
Webber's The Phantom of the Opera, which she performed for
over six years on Broadway and in the National Tour, appearing in
the role of "Christine Daae." It was in her tenure with
Phantom that Pettit met, fell in love with and married Phantom star,
Kevin Gray. She performed for four years in the Broadway musical,
Cats, and has over 4,000 Broadway performances to her credit,
a milestone that only a handful of Broadway performers have achieved.
Prior to her Broadway career, Pettit was a principal dancer with
the Garden State Ballet and Princeton Ballet. She is a BMI Songwriter
and arranger, and her writing credits include songs on the Billboard
Pop and Dance charts, Shel Silverstein's Grammy-nominated A Light
in the Attic and the film Critters. In a style that she
characterizes as "country/pop/rock," Pettit got a Nashville
start with steel guitar legend Pete Drake, and has recorded songs
for RCASSalsoul, and BC Records, hitting the Billboard Charts with
"Sweet Temptation" by Gem. Pettit has released two CDs,
Songs from the Journey and Playin' with the Boys,
and has singles and songs on several CDs by other artists. She also
recently wrote and produced a benefit CD entitled Voices of Broadway,
Songs of Conscience and Hope for Broadway Cares/ Equity Fights
Aids. Pettit has also starred as Patsy Cline in A Closer Walk
with Patsy Chine.
