A masterpiece of theatre by the definitive South
African playwright, Athol Fugard. We are very proud to welcome
director Margo Whitcomb to direct this moving story. Whitcomb
has been a member of the prestigious American Conservatory
Theatre staff in San Francisco since 1996, where her work
has won her many accolades.

Persistent
affirmation through ART
|
An elderly artist, Miss Helen, has created a refuge of art
in the South African veldt after the death of her husband.
She creates a "Mecca" of life-sized cement sculptures
in her yard of camels, owls, mermaids and peacocks. It is
through her persistent affirmation through art, even in the
face of desolation, that she redeems her life and the lives
of those touched by her.
"Glowing with a rare luminosity and intensity,
Athol Fugard's play is also his most eloquent and transforming."
Christian Science Monitor
Winner of the 1988 NY Drama Critics Circle
award, The Road to Mecca has been called
"one of Fugard's most beautiful plays."
