The
moving and often hilarious Park Your Car in Harvard Yard,
by Israel Horovitz, will be the next production at the professional
Centenary Stage Company in Hackettstown. Set in the seaside town
of Gloucestor, Mass., Park Your Car in Harvard Yard is a
hilarious, deeply moving tale about the toughest, meanest teacher
to ever set foot in Gloucestor High School and the housekeeper he
hires to look after him... who has her own secrets. Park Your
Car in Harvard Yard runs from November 8th - 23rd, 2002 at the
Centenary Theatre, in residence on the campus of Centenary College.
The Broadway production of Park Your Car in Harvard Yard,
directed by Zoe Caldwell, opened at the Music Box Theatre in NYC
in 1991 and featured Jason Robards and Judith Ivey as "Jacob Brackish"
and 'Kathleen Hogan."
Jacob Brackish played by Michael Shelle
The CSC production will feature veteran actor Michael Shelle as
the acerbic, yet lovable former high school teacher "Jacob Brackish."
After a career in education, Mr. Shelle followed his passion for
acting and singing, and has since played principal and leading roles
in New York, regional and stock theatres, including the First National
Tour of Titanic (Widener/Carlson/Strauss); Richard Harris'
International Tour of Camelot (Merlin); Annie Get Your
Gun (Sitting Bull); Our Town (Dr. Gibbs); Kopit/Yeston's
Phantom (Carriere); Shenandoah (Charlie); The Most
Happy Fella (Tony); South Pacific (Emile); Brigadoon
(MacLaren); 1776 (Hancock); Radio City Christmas Show, Myrtle
Beach (Santa); Captains Courageous (Harris); Fiddler on
the Roof (Tevye); Zombies from the Beyond (critically
acclaimed off-Broadway show and CD - Major Malone); and on TV on
"Seventh Heaven," "Law and Order," "The Guiding Light," "All My
Children," and on film: Kate and Leopold, starring Meg Ryan and
Hugh Jackman.
Kathleen
Hogan played by Catherine Rust
Catherine Rust as the timid Gloucestor Native "Kathleen Hogan."
Rust is the Associate Producer at Centenary Stage Company (CSC),
as well as the Program Director of the CSC Women Playwrights Series.
She is a former member of the acting companies of the Boston Shakespeare
Company and the Classic Stage Company in New York City, and was
a regular performer with Israel Horowitz' Gloucestor Stage Company
in the past. She was a past member of the director training staff
with ABC, and teaches acting and playwriting with the CSC's Young
Performers Workshop program.
Playwright: Israel Horovitz
Israel Horovitz has written fifty plays over the course of his career,
which have been translated into 20 different Languages. He is the
Artistic Director of the Gloucestor Stage Company in Gloucestor,
Mass, where he also maintains a home. His production of My Old
Lady is currently running on Broadway, featuring Sian Phillips,
Peter Friedman, and Jan Maxwell. Horovitz is also the Founder and
Artistic Director of the New York Playwrights Lab. In the past few
years, Horovitz has written several screenplays including The
Deuce (a/k/a The Gloucester Waterfront); Payofski's
Discovery; The Pan; Astor Hair, The Quiet Room;
The Strong Man; and Letters to Iris. Mr. Horovitz
is a winner of two OBIE Awards, an Emmy, the Prix du Plaisir de
Theatre (for Line in Paris) Prix du Jury (Cannes Film Festival),
The New York Drama Desk Award, the Los Angeles Critics Prize, an
Award in Literature of the American Academy of Arts and Letters,
and the Eliott Norton prize.
Schedule
Park Your Car in Harvard Yard runs November 8th through November
23rd at CSC. Performances are Fridays and Saturdays at 8 pm, Sundays
at 2:30 PM, Thursdays at 7:30 PM (Family Night with a two-for one
rush seat available at the door only), with additional matinee
performances on Nov 8 at 2:30 PM and Wed, Nov 13 at 2:30 PM There
will be a special student matinee on Wednesday November 20th starting
at 11 am. Sun, Nov 10 is the "First Sundays" symposium series, offering
a talkback with the actors and director following the performance.
An audio-described performance will be offered on Sun., Nov 17.

$12.50 to $20. A Buffet Matinee is available to groups of 20 or
