View from the Stage - July 2010

Centenary Stage Company is a not-for-profit theatre dedicated to bringing the performing arts to the Warren, Sussex, Morris and Hunterdon County areas. Our actors are a part of the Actors Equity Association, the professional union for actors. We are an associate member of The New Jersey Theatre Alliance.

The Centenary Performing Arts Guild is our producing organization.  Not only do we offer the professional plays of our Stage Company but also a wide variety of professional and high quality musical and dance events throughout the year.  You will find that all are presented at very affordable prices.

A Note from Carl Wallnau, Artistic Director -
July 2010

Dear Friends,

Carl Wallnau - July 2009For over twenty years the Centenary Stage Company has served as a cultural resource for our community and the beautiful Skylands region. Our mission as a theatre has always been to entertain, to enlighten and to inspire, and each year we venture forth on a journey we hope will have an impact on the lives of our diverse audience.

We celebrate our commitment to you each year with not only our professional Equity Theatre, but also with our state-acclaimed Young Performers Workshop, the new CSC Children’s Theatre on Tour program and our Special Events , Jazz and Concert Series. We hold steadfast to the belief in the transformative power of art, but most importantly, the transformative power of live performance. There is something singular and magical that occurs in the presence of the living actor and performer.

When someone says what kind of theatre are you, we say we are the kind that does seriously good work. I would hope our seasons are not predictable or repetitive, but constantly changing and evolving like the theatre itself.

Whether it is professional theatre or children’s programming, jazz or dance, classical music or blues, we have a commitment to celebrate the arts in all their diverse glory.

Now we are about to embark on a new journey. The new Lackland Center for the Performing Arts, with its 485 seat proscenium theatre and new 120 seat blackbox muti-use space, allows us even more flexibility as we plan for what we hope will be a great inaugural season (Full 2010-11 Schedule, 2010-11 Print Schedule), with new artists, first-class plays and great performers.

We hope you will celebrate this premiere season with us. It promises to be unforgettable.

Sincerely,

Carl Wallnau
Artistic Director
