A Note from Carl Wallnau, Artistic
Director -
July 2007
Dear Theatre Lover,
From
the New York Times to the Newark Star Ledger, the critics are in
agreement; nobody does it better! Centenary Stage Company will continue
its tradition of presenting classic theatrical treasures by opening
its season with another timeless classic comedy, School
for Wives October 5 through 21, 2007. The CSC Classic Comedy Series continues with this riotously funny
gem from the 17th century by Molière.
CSC second play of the season takes place Christmas Eve and it's only 105 degrees in the shade. Welcome to
French New Guiana where paroled convicts from the local penal colony move about with relative freedom. My
Three Angels takes a warm witty romantic look at our long-standing moral convictions of what is right and
what is wrong. My Three Angels is an old fashioned and wonderfully crafted fable to take home for the Holidays.
My Three Angels will be performed Nov. 23-Dec.
9, 2007.
The CSC season wouldn't be complete without the annual World premiere
of a new play form the Women Playwrights developmental series. CSC will end its season with Eugenie Chan's Daphne
Does Dim Sum that will
premiere at CSC Feb. 22 - Mar. 9, 2008. What happens when two Chinese mavens slug it out over who has the best
shrimp puffs, the best date for the dance, the best "Hong Kong" ring, and who will pay the check? "Mai Dan!" happens
of course! Don't miss this delightful new play by San Francisco playwright, Eugenie Chan.
In addition to our usual assortment of dynamic stage productions, we also celebrate the performing arts with a
concert series that will include The NJ Ballet, acoustic blues guitarist Guy
Davis, composer/singer/songwriter Jeffrey
Gaines, and the classical guitar duo La Vita
Williams - again, this season offers variety and something for everyone!
Women Playwrights Series Through a playwright residency and workshop program sponsored in part by the Geraldine
R. Dodge Foundation, each year WPS showcases new works by woman playwrights in a developmental program that offers
each playwright the opportunity to work for a short, intense rehearsal period with professional directors, actors,
and staff, mounting and rewriting the play for a public forum. Each workshop performance, open to the public at
no charge, is an exciting exchange of new ideas, public feedback and conversation with the playwright, which can
inspire subtle and defining alterations to the script for the final rewrite. Mark your calendar for the dates: Wed.
April 9th, 16th and 23rd.
With an ambition to be the best and to serve our community, the
Centenary Performing Arts Guild has established itself as an excellent,
year-round cultural resource for our region, with professional music,
theatre and dance events, as well as classes for the public, workshops,
and educational programming.
The intimate 174 seat Centenary Theatre offers the perfect
venue for an exciting Theatrical experience, and we have a subscription
plan available for every schedule. Ordering is as
easy as ever. The concert events can be purchased individually
or as a part of a subscription ticket covering the season. Use our
secure Online
Ordering System or print and fill out the Print
Order form, return it, and join us for what we know is going
to be another exciting season.
