Box Festival - 2013 Nov. 7-24, 2013 Kutz Theater of the Lackland Center
Centenary Stage Company is pleased to bring back our Black Box Festival. It will bring three contrasting events to its 100-seat space.
Synonymous with the innovative theatre movement of the 1960s, the "black-box" space provided a canvas for a variety of different genres, designs and exciting theatrical experimentation. Centenary Stage Company celebrates the best of the movement with its own "Black Box Festival", Nov 1 - 18th, featuring three distinctive productions, highlighting theatricality in sound, lighting, the spoken word, and physical comedy.
Life's up and downs and highs and lows are often accented by the bittersweet moments in between. When you set those special moments to music, you get a new musical revue. Composer Elliot Weiss and lyricist Mike Champagne (winners of the Eugene O'Neill Award for Musical Theatre) are at it again with a new song cycle, "In this newest version of BITTERSUITE, we have returned to explore the American Middle Class as we age. Have we changed; have we learned; who are we now," said Champagne.
Born has dedicated his life to the performance and advancement of the magical arts. He now travels the world as a full-time entertainer, lecturer, writer, and innovator in the magical arts. He has written two best selling instructional books on magic and mentalism, and is featured on ten instructional DVDs filmed out of Las Vegas and Reno. Here is a chance to witness the close up magic, miracles and mind games of John B. Born in the intimate Kutz Theatre.
See what happens when you sin with a shiksa! Jam to Soviet Yiddish Rock! Hear Einstein's theory debated by imbeciles!
The Essence is a fast-moving revue for people who couldn't care less about nostalgia, for people who know nothing about Yiddish and couldn't imagine attending a show with Yiddish in it. It's about the most expressive and theatrical language in the world, with scenes, sketches, songs, and oddball diversions that run the gamut from the most beautiful poetry to the most rancid melodrama.
You'll laugh, you'll cry, you'll sing, you'll get nauseous. Nostalgia-free. Guaranteed, or we give you your 85 minutes back.
You can have peace of mind while enjoying world-class entertainment with our barrier-free access available
at every Centenary Stage Company performance in the Lackland Center.
The new facility includes ample doorways, convenient curb cuts, ramps, and automatic power doors for easy wheelchair
and mobility device accessibility. There is convenient parking on a first-come, first-served basis for vehicles
with handicapped placards and/or license plates. Accessible restrooms are located on the main lobby
level, and there is Elevator service to the upper level of the Lackland Center. CSC offers Wheelchair-accessible
and companion seating upon request. Our assistive listening devices allow you to adjust the volume of the
performance and enjoy it at your own level. Large print programs are available for all Theater Series performances
with a 1-week advance notice.
