Audiences can't wait until next July for more Jazz !! People love The Jazz in July Concert Series at Centenary College's Little Theatre so much, that we're introducing a new jazz series to heat up those winter nights this January...And what else would we call it, but Jazz in January !

An evening of pure jazz mastery is in store on Saturday, January 20th with legendary R&B saxophonist David "Fathead" Newman and Jesse Green on piano. David has played with everyone from Ray Charles to Herbie Mann, Aretha Franklin, Hank Crawford, Stanley Turrentine, Hank Crawford and many more.

Originally from Corsicana, Texas, David went on the road in his late teens with Buster Smith, Charlie Parker's mentor. They played lots of one nighters and dance halls in Texas, Arkansas, Oklahoma and California. It was during this time, that David met Ray Charles. His association with Ray Charles was to last twelve years. During that time, David became the star tenor soloist with Ray's band. Later he gigged with Lee Morgan, Kenny Drew Sr., Billy Higgins, Kenny Dorham and so many other of the jazz greats on the NY scene at that time. He later began touring Europe and Japan as a leader.

The late nineties brought David new success with an album titled "I Remember Brother Ray" which was released in January 2005 and became the #1 Most Played Jazz Album nationwide.
David will be joined by Jesse Green on piano, son of legendary trombonist, Urbie Green and winner of the Great American Jazz Piano Competition at the 2006 Jacksonville Jazz Festival, with Frank Hauch on bass and Neil Bronstein on drums. Frank, originally from Basking Ridge, NJ, has distinguished himself in a very short period of time, graduating from William Paterson University in 2004 has already recorded with such luminaries as Phil Woods, Dave Liebman and Chris Potter. Neil Bronstein, a talented drummer in his own right fills out the quartet.
