The Joys of Sax
Three Great Tenors
Sat., Jan. 26, 2008 / 8 pm
Jerry Weldon
Jerry Weldon is a veteran hard bop tenor whose prolific career has included stints with Lionel Hampton and Harry Connick,
extensive duties as sideman, and leader of his own ensembles. Weldon has a big soulful-tough tenor-sound, a wide bop vocabulary,
and enough energy to ignite any ensemble.
Andrew Neu
Andrew Neu brings you a fresh new sound with a blend of traditional jazz, R & B and Latin music. Andrew is equally comfortable
performing with Peter Nero and The Philly Pops or at Philadelphia's premier jazz venue Zanzibar Blue. Andrew has shared the stage
with Sir Elton John, Patti LaBelle, Mellissa Manchester, Mel Torme, Malcom-Jamal Warner, The Four Tops and The Temptations, among
others. He has also recorded with Sister Sledge, Manhattan Transfer and jazz legend Buddy DeFranco.
Dick Meldonian
Dick Meldonian is a superb swing-based soloist whose impressive style, energy and creativity is universally respected
by audiences and fellow musicians alike. Dick’s worked with Neil Hefti, Johnny Richards, Nat Pierce, Gerry Mulligan,
Woody Herman, Benny Goodman, Lionel Hampton, Charlie Barnet, Merv Griffin, Liza Minelli, Tony Bennett, Gil Evans and
Terry Gibbs. He’s appeared at Newport Jazz Festivals and Carnegie Hall and performs at jazz clubs, college workshops
and directs his Tuesday Night Big Band at Emerson, NJ attracting large crowds at their open rehearsals.
Backing the Tenors:
The Jesse Green Trio
Jesse Green
As a pianist, composer, arranger, recording artist, producer, and teacher, Jesse Green has an extensive background in
music. He has written many arrangements for big band as well as small groups. “Blues for Dad”, written for
his father, legendary jazz trombonist Urbie Green, was performed by the “Cota Cats” at the 1989 Cota Jazz
Festival. With his own trio, he has appeared at the famous DeerHead Inn in Delaware Water Gap, PA, the Hillside Inn
Jazz Lounge, River Street Jazz Café, and Blues Street Jazz Club...all Pocono area jazz clubs. Jesse has played
at the Smoke Jazz Club in NYC and at the Trumpets Jazz Club in Montclair.
Evan Gregor
Evan Gregor began studying electric bass at age 13 and became exposed to jazz through the artistic community in Delaware
Water Gap, PA. He received a scholarship to Berklee College of music where he received awards for both performance and
his major, jazz composition.
Neil Braunstein
Years in New Jersey were spent learning drums under the tutelage of multi instrumentalist/instructor
Bob Palese. The family then moved to the Pocono Mountains in Pennsylvania, where he performed his first gig at age 10.
It was here he had the opportunity to experience and learn about real jazz from resident masters such as Phil Woods, Al
Cohn, and Johnny Coates.
