The
summer will swing in Hackettstown this year as the "Jazz in July" series returns to the air conditioned
Centenary Theatre on the campus of Centenary College for four consecutive Saturdays, beginning July 11th.
The concerts feature four major jazz artists/groups who have established themselves as great players in the
world of jazz.

pop, blues and poignant mellow gospel. She combines jazz originals, standards, pop/blues tunes, and open
impro- visation in an adventurous, genrebending style that's inspirational and original; a singer with
a Sound!

Chico
has been playing professionally since the age of sixteen. He is an only child coming from a musical
family, which included his Uncle, Charles Singleton, who penned “Spanish Eyes” and “Strangers
in the Night”. He plays all percussion instruments, including piano, vibraharp, marimba, xylophone,
and many exotic drums from foreign nations. He’s an accomplished composer, arranger and performer
who has been nominated for the prestigious Grammy award.

craft and in total command of their instruments. That’s The DIVA Jazz Orchestra – an ensemble
of 15 extremely talented and versatile musicians who just happen to be women. They can’t help
it – they were born that way. Headed by swinging drummer Sherrie Maricle, DIVA exudes the excitement
and force found in the tradition of the historic big bands but with an eye towards today’s progressive
sound of originality and verve.
