A Note from Carl Wallnau,
Artistic Director - May 2006

Dear Local Business Arts Supporters,
From the New York Times to the Newark Star Ledger, the critics
are in agreement. Year in and year out, The Centenary Stage Company
continues to be one of New Jersey's most compelling and adventurous
professional theatres. We continue our commitment to excellence
with a great season of wonderful plays and exciting events.
Our programming begins in October with She
Stoops to Conquer by Oliver Goldsmith,
a restoration comedy that turns romance upside down. It's
love... fraught with
mistaken identities and downright tomfoolery. In November we follow
up with The
Dew Point, a world premiere comedy by Neena Beeber,
developed in our own Women Playwright Project, which
addresses the modem issues
of what we choose to value in our contemporary, fast-paced society.
In March, we close our equity season with Quartermaine's
Terms by Simon Gray. Set in an English college
near Cambridge, Quartermaine is a comedy about a group
of eccentric professors teaching
English to foreign students that is both witty and oddly moving.
Our concert series once again offers an exciting mix of traditional
and non-traditional works, including performances by The
New Jersey Ballet, and Cephas
& Wiggins, returning to the Centenary Stage with music that
highlights the cultural and historical content of their genre, "The
Blues". In addition, two new performers join the Centenary
Stage Company roster of artists: SVIRAJ,
a trio of ethnic Balkan musicians performing music of the Balkan
Region and Eastern Europe, and Latin
Fiesta! A 10-member ensemble committed to building cultural
bridges through the performance of Spanish and Latin American music
and dance.
It's time to cast your vote for first class Music, Theatre and
Dance at the Centenary Performing Arts Guild! The 2006-2007 season
at CPAG promises to be as exciting as its predecessors, and the
shows and events will draw over 10,000 intelligent, affluent individuals
who are interested in the products and activities, like visits to
the theatre, that enhance their lives. Your ad in one of our program
guides will put your business at the front of their minds after
the performance. Advertising in our program is a great way to show
these art lovers that you support theatre in Northwest New Jersey.
Your ad in the CPAG program guide is one of the best ways to show
your support for a strong continuing arts program in this beautiful
Highlands region. Please fill out the Advertising
Enrollment Form (Rates), and join us for a great year of culture
and entertainment at the Centenary Performing Arts Guild.
Sincerely,
Carl Wallnau
Producing Director
P.S. We still have seats available under our "Adopt-a-Chair"
program. Your gift of $150.00 will enable us to continue to serve
as a major cultural resource for Northwest New Jersey. Your brass
plaque, inscribed with your name or the name of a loved one, placed
on the seat of your choice, will serve as both a dedication and
a celebration of "The Arts."
