Centenary
College is pleased to offer interested students a BA
in Theatre Arts. Prospective students in Theatre Arts have
a unique opportunity to develop skills in a working professional
theatre while pursuing a Liberal Arts education. Along with
the required liberal arts core requirements, theatre students
partake of classes in acting, dance, voice and stage craft.
Of particular interest is the students opportunity to develop
these skills in conjunction with the Centenary Stage
Company, your professional not-for-profit Equity theatre
in residence at Centenary College.
Centenary students are expected to work in professional productions
as actors, crew, stage management and front house personnel.
We afford students the opportunity to work alongside veterans
of stage and screen. This exposure to the practical real
world theatre offers students a unique opportunity and perspective
for those aspiring to the profession. Interested students
may join the EMC (Equity Membership Candidate) program, earning
weeks toward their Equity card. It is quite possible for
a student to gain enough weeks through stage work to join
upon graduation.
Important to Note:
This is the only program in New Jersey offering the
EMC Program and one of only a few programs in the United
States where you can earn credit toward your union
card while pursuing an academic degree.
Second and third year students may choose to study acting
in several affiliate studios in New York City. These classes
are in addition to the regular courses offered by the college.
The programs offered include (by audition only):
The William Esper Studio
Stella Adler
Lee Strasberg Studio
Our proximity to New York City allows for a staff of instructors,
