designs with strings

Choreography by John Taras
Music by Peter I. Tchaikovsky

This one-act ballet, set to Tchaikovsky's haunting Trio in A Minor, shows the strong neoclassical influence of Tara's master, George Balanchine.

Facets

Choreography by Ali Pourfarrokh
Music by Gustav Mahler

Set to the third movement of Mahler's Fourth Symphony the ballet is a lyrical piece for three couples, which explores deep emotions and interactions between people.  It captures the elegiac flow of the music and unfolds in an unbroken phrase.

marietta's song

Choreography by George Tomal
Music by Erich W. Korngold

This pas de deux is a tribute to John Overaker a staunch supporter of NJB.  It was commissioned by his wife, Martha Hadeler, in honor of their 20th Anniversary.

NJB's Resident Choreographer George Tomal has created a romantic pas de deux using music from a rarely produced German opera, Die Tote Stadt [The Dead City], somposed in 1920 by Erich Wolfgang Korngold.  The opera tells the story of Paul a young widower obsessed with death, and Marietta, a cold - hearted temptress who tries to lure him back to the world of the living.

Saturday Night

Choreography by Ginger Thatcher
Music by Etta James and Kev' Mo'

Saturday Night is set to a series of smoky songs by blues singers Etta James and Kev' Mo' (Kevin Moore).  Ms. Thatcher hears unexpected themes and nuances in these songs and reveals them in a smooth incorporation of ballet and jazz dancing.
