Young Audience Series (YAS)

A program of the Centenary University Theatre Department produced by Centenary Stage Company

The Centenary Stage Company's Young Audience Series (YAS) is part of the professional Centenary Stage Company's mission to serve the region's youth with dynamic performances and workshops throughout the year. Several times a year, the Young Audience Series offers stage adaptations of beloved classic children's literature at the Centenary Little Theater located in the Seay building  at 400 Jefferson Street Hackettstown, NJ 07840 on the campus of Centenary University. In addition to "in-house" performances the Young Audience Series offers a selection of productions available for touring. Bring the fun right to you!

Ticket Prices for in-house performances:

$15.00 Adults / $10.00 Child under 12

In addition to the touring program Centenary Stage Company's Young Audience Series offers a selection of performances on-site in our Little Theatre space at 400 Jefferson Street Hackettstown, NJ throughout the year. These performances are typically scheduled upon request of a larger school group, however, pending availability will be opened to the general public.

A Year With Frog and Toad

Appropriate for Grades K - 4

Waking from hibernation in the Spring, Frog and Toad plant gardens, swim, rake leaves, go sledding and learn life lessons along the way. The two best friends celebrate and rejoice in the differences that make them unique and special. Part vaudeville, part make believe... all charm, A Year with Frog and Toad tells the story of a friendship that endures throughout the seasons.

Appropriate for Grades K - 4

One day in class, Grace Campbell discovered there has never been a female president. "Where are the girls?" she asked, as her third-grade teacher rolls out a poster of all 44 US presidents. Frustrated by the lack of female faces in the White House, Grace decides she wants to be president and inspires a school election.

Shake it Up Shakespeare

Appropriate for Grades K - 4

A CELEBRATION OF THE WORKS OF WILLIAM SHAKESPEARE!

Take a journey through some of the bard’s greatest works and  characters in this interactive performance, engaging young audiences and introducing a new way to look at Shakespeare! With scenes from Romeo and Juliet, Macbeth, and A Midsummer Night’s Dream, including comedy and action-packed sword fights!

Miss Nelson is Missing

Appropriate for Grades K - 4

Miss Nelson’s class is the worst behaved in the whole school. Spitballs flying across the room, paper airplanes sailing every which way and uncontrollable children send gentle, long-suffering Miss Nelson over the edge. But the students of Room 207 are in for a surprise when Miss Nelson goes missing and is replaced by Viola Swamp, a no-nonsense substitute who assigns piles of homework! The students learn lessons of appreciation and respect as they set out to find their beloved Miss Nelson … but will they ever get her back?

The Smedly Tornadoes have not only never won a football game, they have never scored a single point! Coach Armstrong goes bonkers and Miss Nelson decides to help out. She enlists Coach Viola Swamp to whip the team into shape and save the day! Snappy sequel to “Miss Nelson Is Missing!” A perfect fall musical.
